Received 23rd, p.m. Sydney, January 23. The Fagcland, in coming into the Sydney dock, after discharging timber at Auelaide, ran ashore during the night. Captain Agerup -states that (be sea was rough, with, thick haze and drizzling ran. At the time of the disaster it was impossible to sec beyond a length of the ship. From the lights ashore bewas under the impression that they were off Coogee beach. Suddenly, while going full speed ahead, the boat crashed into the rucks. Signals ol distress were made, but were unseen, apparently owing to the thick weather.
Tugs came to their assistance during the morning. After striking bow first, the stern of the vessel swung rouna on the rocks, and the head now points seaward.
The Fageland lies inside a reef on a rocky bottom, with boulders all round. The propeller and rudder ar e damaged, and toe false bottom is torn, aud she is making a little water in No. 1 hold. The crew of Norwegians, after landing, returned aboard, where they remained.
The prospects of salvage are not considered very hopeful. The sea calmed during the day, and \* now smooth, with a light wind. If bad weather couies it b feared that owing to the exposed position the wnl go to pieces. Several attempts to tow her off during the day were unavailing. Another attempt will be made at high water tonight.
