EDUCATION BOARD.
The Taranaki Education Board met last night. Present Messrs. James Wade (chairman), li. Adlain, ti. Tisch, Trimble, W. L. Kennedy, and 11. Fuull. ARCHITECT'S REPORT. The architect, Mr. ,1. Sanderson, submitted his monthly report. lie had visited tin' Tikorangi. Uuiraiigi, Lcppcrlou, Hell Block, Norfolk, Durham, and Dudley schools. At Tikorangi the painting was almost completed, bnt the fence was too old for painting, and the committee was to erect another. Other rep:i rs were going on. At Umpcrtou the wooden drains were rotten and should be replaced with earthenware. Minor repairs wore proceeding at various schools. Cood progress »■« being made with the erection of the plumbing-room at the Xcw Plymouth Technical School and with the Board's new olHces. It was decided to call for alternative tenders for repairs and enlargement of tli- Wortlcy school. 1 FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee recommended thai the application ui' the Tikorangi' cimunitlce re painting and repairs he gianted and the architect instructed to •see to the repairs required; that the tender of .Mr. Brabant for the erection ot the Ukoke schuol lie accepted; tliat the Sash and Door Company's tender for school furniture be accepted; that the
application of the Waitara committee for a bathroom lie granted, on the architect certifying that it will not cost the. Board more than thai the letter from the Xgaire committee with regard to the rotten state of some of the piles under the school buildings be referred to the architect. The adoption of the report was moved by Messrs. Kennedy and Tisch. Mr. Faull moved, as an amendment, that the retcrencc to the bathroom at the Waitara school be held over, as the Department had twice declined to allow the Board to place bathrooms in present residences. He objected to singling out one or two schools for particular favors. Seconded by Mr. Adlam pro forma. The amendment was lost and the motion carried, .Mr. Fault's negative vote being recorded. TEACHERS' SELECTION COMMITTEE.
The Teachers' Selection Committee report ect tbal the following applications had been received for positions advertised:—Dudley, sole teacher. 5; liahui. sole teacher. 4; Stratford, second assistant master, 1; luglcvvood, assistant mistress, 5; Central, female assistant, 4. They recommended tliat the following names Ire forwarded to the committees interested:— Dudley: Miss A.Lewis, part D, Wanganui; Miss E. K. Shone, D 3, -VUoii; Miss llnmcrton, E3, Salisbury. Knlmi (temporary appointment): .Mr. Kitchingliani, C2; Mr; It. Morgan, EI. Stratford: Mr. S. W. Dyson, B.A. (part), Training College. Inglewood: Miss J. Sinclair, E4, Larringtou; Miss H. E. Dempsey, part D, Eahotu; .Miss Riordan, 153; Miss i\ U'lirien, part 1), West End. Central: Miss H. E. Dempsey; Mrs. Brcreton, licenced. The committee further recommended that .Miss Coleman be temporarily appointed assistant at Toko, Miss Blake transferred to Stratford, and Miss Finchaoi transferred to Tariki; and that Miss Vickers be appointed pupil teacher at luglewood.—Adopted. RESIGNATIONS. -Miss X. Ford (Central) and Miss Mackay (Stratford), who had been appointed to the Wellington Training College, forwarded their resignations as pupil teachers, the former resignation dating from 31st January and the latter from 28th February. The chairman said that these teachers would take up their new positions in March, He considered that it would be a disadvantage if they continued teaching in their schools for one month, merely to disorganise the school when fresh appointments were made. Again, these young ladies were now receiving pay from the Government at the rate of £6O a year. Should they be doubly paid'/
It was resolved, "That Miss N. Ford, of the Central School, and Miss M. Mackay, of the Stratford District High n Training Coii of their term . . ;rs under the which terminated on the 31st ~ -.x, 1907." Other resignations were accepted:— Central, assistant, Miss M. Crawford; Denbigh, sole teacher, Miss M. Bourke; Stratford, assistant, Mr. R. Charles. APPOINTMENTS. The following appointments on school committees were confirmed:— Mr. H. J. Codd (Dudley} on account of the resignation of Mr. Johnston; and Mr. A. Stewart (Stratford) vice Mr. T. King, ned. The resignations were received of Mr. and Mrs. Monkhouse and Mr. W. L. Kennedy from the Stratford Technical School committee. u of Mr. Monkhouse's successor to the Education Board. DONATION. II was decided that Mr. tt. H. Maunder he accorded a vote of thanks for his libIs the imouth Technical School grounds, and that an application be made to the Department for a subsidy. PUPIL TEACHERS. The Chief Inspector reported that the following probationers had received a favorable report from their headmasters. and he recommended that their appointments as pupil teachers be confirmed: Elsie Brown. Fitzroy; Mary Bollinger, Central; Annie Noble, Central. The apnointments were confirmed.
