THE WHANG ARE I CASE. ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. Per Pkcss Association. Whangarei, Last Night. Nicholas Maddrcn on remand, was charged at the .court to-day with having destroyed by Sre a house at Kiripaka occupied by George Wetherall and owned by the Northern Coal Company, on the night of Ist January. He was also charged with entering the house of Mrs. Ohlscn on the same night and stealing therefrom notes and cash to the value of £l7O. Tliis amount was found on accused when arrested. Wctlieralls were away at the time of the lire, and the police held the opinion that the fire was deliberately started by someone to draw Ohlsens away from home, thus giving opportunity for theft.
