SETTLERS HAVE AN ANXIOUS TIME. Per Press Association, Palmers ton North, Last Night, illie Pohangina valley is ablaze,- and tlie residents are having an anxious time. The stump fires have spread over the country between Awahou South to beyond Komako. A large number of settlers had to fight the lames to have buildings and fences, a number being up all night mustering sheep to save them from being burnt, and in otherwise protectrag their property. This is the "most destructive fire for eight years. The danger is not yet passed, and rain is anxiously awaited l>y the settlers.
