GOLD NEAR NELSON.

IS IT A HOAX? Per Press Association. Nelson, last Night. Some excitement was caused yesterday by a report that gold had been discovered on the mud flat along the waterfront it appears that a party of Corporation laborers, who were laying the outfall sewerage main, found traces of gold in the excavations. They temporarily abandoned their work and made several "wash ups," with encouraging results. The news quickly spread, and the discoverers were soon 'joined by several others. During the day the' Commissioner of Crown Lands issued licenses for one or two claims, which were duly pegged out, the holders of one of the largest l>eing a neighboring M.P. A hoax is now suspected.
