Something of a disturbance took place in Cathedral Square to-night, resulting in the arrest of two men—one a seaman from the Pyramus, for being drunk while in charge of a horse and trap and for driving in a reckless and dangerous manner, and the other a civilian, for inciting the crowd to resist the police. The trap, containing three seamen more or Icsii intoxicated, had been careering through the city streets throughout the early evening, ami many collisions were narrowly avoided. The vehicle was -stopped by the police in Cathedral Square, anil the occupants were ordered to get out. They refused. A struggle fallowed, and a large crowd immediately congregated, many siding with the men and hooting the police. In the general melee two of the three got away, but the third was captured, together with a young man who had l>een taking an active part in the hostile demonstration. The crowd followed the constables and the prisoners to the police station, hooting the police and cheering the navy.
