SWINDLING BY ELECTRICITY.
Cheating by electricity is an accomplishment by which a clever seoundrel has been fleecing many wealthy gamblers in l'aris of thousands of pounds. He played roulette with them, but played it in a way that would have outraged the honesty of the heathen Chinee. For the roulette table which he used was as full of electricity as a thunderstorm; and while the other fellows were just gambling, he was rooking them all the time with the assistance of invisible electric currents. The roulette wheel contained a network of electrical wires, so arranged that by the manipulation of switches carefully concealed inside the cash drawer, or by the apparently careless placing of a stack of chips or counters in a certain spot, electro-magnets concealed within the very structure of the wheel itself would be Bo thrown into circuit as to draw the ball, which contained a soft iron core, into any group of pockets the dealer might desire.
