Trichardt ou October 8 saw lour lions on an ostrich farm at Attn I'laiui. He called tlie owner, anil the two went together to try to shoot tin; lions. When tlie two inen approached three of the lions made oil, but the foirtli, a half-grown lioness, lay down and wait ed, charging twice when the uien eaine i up to withm fifteen feet of them. The farm dogs arrived and began to worry , tue lionees, which crept into a patch oi , bush and tried to hide behind the projecting roots of a tree. , 'I lie men determined to try to catch her alive. They made a loop of raw hide rope, fastened it to a stick, and attempted at closer ipiarters to pass the noose over tlie lioness's neck. They failed.
The dogs were then set oil io worry the lioness again, and while the brute defended herself loops were passed round each of her hind leg. The nooses were drawn tight and the lioness held fast until her other limbs mere bound. Then a cart was fetched, and the lioness hoisted into it and conveyed to the farm buildings.
