| Fishermaid has improved greatly since , she went into W. Raynor's hands, and won a double in good style. Tarina won the First and Second Scurries in good style, and i«s taking on open • company at Stratford. L'hlando fully endorsed the good opinion 1 formed of him after the Waitaru meeting, by winning the Christmas Handicap, and over a mile and u-quarter tlie good-looking son of I'hlan is very hard to beat. His next engagement is | iu l lie Stratford Cup. i Inuuolatioii, who came with a strong j run at the linUli of the Chrietiuas llan- I dicap, is evidently well suited by the distance, and escapes a penalty in the big race at Stratford. Many people are Jinding fault with the way Cyrene was handled iu the Flying Handicap on the first day. The Cyrenlan gelding did not get the best of the start and, strange to say, did not improve his position in the straight run up the back ot the course, which, of course, put him right out of the race. On the second (! y Harlow kept him in good position in ch race and got the best out of him, . :t the defeat he met with in the Fare- | \ 'll Handicap when he failed to give i.ibs lo Silver Shell was no disgrace, as t!v six furlongs were left behind in , I "in ltisee., Advantage, the 3-year-uhl daughter of i A Svance, registered a nice performance wlifiL she scored in the Iluatoki Plate from Burton and Kilmarnock. She tin- j Wi.'d close uj) to Dear Dolly and Supple- ' nKut in the Klectric Hack Handicap on ; the second day ami may win races later on. She resembles her sire, and was ( Hie prettiest animal on the course.
Daisy Paul was made a hot. favorite for the Stewards' Handicap, and flattered her supporter* until well in the .straight, when Pearlie appeared on the scene, and finishing gamely settled all opposition. Pearlie was turned out in splendid condition and ran one of her best races. Hydraulic found the mile too far for Inn iu the Ladies' Puive. and at the finish Te Kuiti ran all over him. Black Banner ran snflieiently well in each of tie- hurdle races to be worth noting for future stick events. The black son ot Banner is hardly cherry ripe at present, but should pick up a race over a mi'.e and a-half in a month or ! SO. I
Showman finished up fast, but jumped slovenly. , .Mikotahi, who might have finished clo-er up in tiie lluutoki Plate, improved on his performance and got away with the Jlnnguluku Handicap after a* sliarj> tussle with Te Kniti. Supplement ran two seconds at the meeting, and is coining on. The progeny of St. Clemen!s call all move ■smartly over short d : stanees, ami she should soon reward .Mr Caher with a win. Silver Shell put up a slashing performance when she won the Farewell Handicap. As the time denotes there was no waiting on the journey, and the daughter of Sylvia Park fairly romped over Cyrene ill the last furlong. There were no accidents or protests at the meeting, and everything p asS ed j off smoothly. The Christmas meeting of mill may go down as one of the most successful and enjoyable gatherings ever held on the course'.
