DRUCE-PORTLAND CASE.

CALDWELL ARRESTED. New York, December 22. Upon his arrival at New York Robert Caldwell, one of the principal witnesses in the Druce-Portland case, was arrested. He stated that he was suffering from Blight's disease. The Court appointed doctors who reported that Caldwell was desperately ill. Thereupon he was released. Bail was fixed at 5000 do!lam. Accused was remanded till January 7th. The bail was furnished. The news of the issue of the warrant for Caldwell's arrest was received by wireless telegraph aboard tile KaieeriiiAngust on her way from England to Xew York. Caldwell and the other passengers learned the news from the daily paper published aboard the boat.

Caldwell arrived in a state bordering on collapse.
