NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of tlie New Plymouth Borough Council was held last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. Dockrill), and Ora. Boon, Colemivn, Bellringer, Collis, Mills, Morey, Cattley, and Browne. AN INJUNCTION. The Town Clerk notified the receipt of a writ applying for an injunction to prevent the Council.consenting to the deviation of the Huatoki stream at Messrs Collett, and Co.'s property. The writ had been sent on to the borough solicitors. The Mayor said that the action had been taken by Messrs E. C. Hughes and Clem. Webster.
THE BATHS. Tlie Baths Committee reported that it' had 110 objection to the proposed arrangement between Messrs Ogilvie and Lints for the instruction ot tne gymnastic class at the baths; that the tender of Messrs West and Son's at £43 3s be accepted for painting at the baths (other tenders, Mr A. Cliff £67 10s) • Messrs Boon Bros., £62 15s); and that permission be given to the Swimming Club to erect a chute at the baths. Cr. Bellringer foresaw trouble in allowing a second instructor at the baths, for the Council's caretaker was entitled to all perquisites from swimming lessonß - . V ' C. Mills differed. There was plenty of water, plenty of room, and the caretaker was the sole judge of the advisof admitting a second instructor, Cr. OollSs said'that Mr Lints proposed to give gymnastic instruction at the baths to his gymnastic class-, any swimming fees to go to the caretaker, as usual.
The report was adopted, subject to this matter being entered in writing by the parties concerned. DRAINAGE COMMITTEE. The Drainage Conynittee recommended—That the borough engineer be authorised to lay a sewer in Gover street, from Gill street to Molesworth street, thence along Molesworth street to Currie street, and thence along Currie street to Gill street (estimated cost £190); that in cases where property owners are unable to provide the initial cost of connecting their properties-with the drainage system of the borough it be a general ptinoiple that the Coundl, after consideration of each case on its merits, do the work under the provisions of section 277 of "The Municipal Corporations Act, lflOO," upon the following conditions:—The cost to lie advanced from the General Account, and to be refunded by the owne* in five equal yearly payments, Including interests at B per cent, and costs. The report was adopted. RESERVES, COMMITTEE.
The Reserves Committee recommend; ed—That the chairman be authorised to Set aside a piece of giound in the cemetery for the interment of the inmates of the Old People's Home. FINANCE COMMITTEE.The Finance Committee recommended—That the salary of Mr Dixon (assistant in the Town Clerk's office) be increased by £lO for the year ending 31st March, 1908;j thait the accounts as per schedule ho passed for payment. —Adopted. .iS'il'H
WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee reported—That tile channelling in Gill street to continned to Liardet street, and that the water channel in Liardet street between Devon street and Gill street be laid in .concrete; that the By-laws Committee be rcijiiusieil to frame a by-law dealing with tile question of extraordinary traffic within tli 0 borough; that the Works Committee wait on the District Engineer of Railways and endeavor to get the Department to motal Leacli street utter tlie rails are taken up; that Mr R. Howard's tender of si/„d for small dog collars, and O'/jd for largo collars ]>o Accepted; tliat for the future no fontpaths to be permanently laid out in the borough shall exceed twelve feet; tliat ns requested by him, consideration of Mr Lindstrom's application for permission to erect n tannery be deferred until after the holidays.—Adopted, after the deletion of the clause referring to Leach street metalling.
