RETALIATING ON THE AUSTRALIAN TARIFF. Received 18th, 11.45 p.m. London, December 18. The comments of the Ministerial press at Ottawa confirm the first report of the intention to retaliate. The Toronto Globe declares that giving a bonus to a steamship line to Australia, where the cost of passing the Customs-house exceeds the cost of the voyage round the world, is too palpably illogical for Canadian policy, and adds Wat it i, foolish activity to pay simulUneously to get goods in and keep them out. 1
