) KAHOTU. ; (From Our Own Correspondent.) 1 I regret to have to report the death of Mr. Jacob Rothery, which took place at 1 his residence, Kahui-road, on Monday morning. Mr. Rothery had been suffering'f Of sonic tiiue fi'oitt an internal coin-' plaint, for which Jie underwent ah operation some months ago, but he only obtained temporary relict and gradually became worse, 30 that his death was not unexpected. Mr. Rothery was well known and very well respected along the coast, having resided here for over sixteen years, during the greater portion of which' lie was engaged in sawmilling on the Kahui-road. During the last few years he has engaged in farming pursuits, lie was a man of wonderful vitality and endurance, and whilst sawmilling met wllli accident* from which very frjw men would have recovered, lie was also a progressive man, and one who look liis share in public affairs, having been 11 member of the Parihakn Koad Hoard for years past arid its chairman for ovev live year*, up to the time of I
bis death, whilst he was also a member of Die lirst Kgmont County Council, lie was a man that can ill lie spared from 11 district, and bis death at the age of .">5 years will ho clcoply regretted by all who knew litm. He leaves a widow and family of six sons and one daughter to mourn their loss, and T feel sure they have the sympathy of the whole district in their bereavement. The funeral takes place nt Okato to-day. ~
