COMPELLED TO CLOSE DOWN. GOVERNMENT TO BE APPROACHED. Received December !), 12.51 nan. Sydney, December 8. The latest development in connection with the Lithgow ironworks is a notcie posted to-day that all departments of the works, with the exception of the blast furnaces and iron mine at Carcoar, are to be dosed down to-morrow. This will throw idle 1750 men, and directly and indirectly affect 3000. A deputation representative of all classes at Lithgow waits on the Premier to-morrow to urge the Government to take, steps to prevent the disaster threatening the town by the stoppage of the works.
