"CHILD SLAVERY" IN TARANAKI.

I A STATISTICAL ARGUMENT. The Eltham Argus is indebted to the courtesy of the chairman of directors of the J'J.tii..,a to-operative Dairy Factory Company (Mr. T. 0. Hodgson) and the co-operation of the factory and creamery managers for the table given below, showing how many cows are milked by the children of suppliers to the' various creameries of the company, the number of children employed in each

case, uml their ages. The statistics were gathered at the various creameries, and every eare was taken to ensure their accuracy. The tabic does not include returns relating to the Fraser-road or Eltham-road creameries or the main factory, but as the suppliers in these districts are well-to-do there is reason to believe that even less milking is (lone by children than in the cases shown
