At a meeting of the University Council 10-duy, a statement showing a list of benefactioiw received from private sources since 1!)03 was presented. This showed that subscriptions and bequests amounted to £30,1)20, one item of which —the Evening Star's collection of public subscriptions for the extinction of the boating debt—earned a subsidy of .CllioO from the Government. The late Mr. Beverley's bequest is estimated to be worth £15,100. The question of the proposed veterinary school came up for discussion, a letter being received from Mr. Clifton, Chief Inspector of Stock, asking when the school would be established. Mr. James Allen (Vice-Chancel-lor) said during the recent lie and Mr.. Sidey had a number of interviews with the Hon. Mr. McNab on the subject. After consultation with the Minister they had come to the conclusion that an abridged course of training suitable for stuck and dairy inspectors should be tried. These negotiations were still going on. lie had recommended to the Minister that they should give a two years' course, with a certificate in animal hygiene, and had asked the Minister to arrange that all inspectors under the Agricultural Department should be drawn from students who had undergone such training. Mr. Allen was authorised to interview the Minister on his present visit, to ascertain the intention of the Government.
