SERIOUS CHARGE OF THEFT.
Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Archibald McNab was charged with I stealing in May last £lls from David Sutherland. The latter disappeared from his lodgings, and his body was subsequently found in Wellington harbor. Chief Detective McGrath said there was not the slightest suspicion that the theft was in any way connected with Sutherland's death. Sutherland* who was a deaf mute, was discharged from prison in May, after serving a month for liabitual drunkenness, and when discharged had a eheipie for £lls and £5 in notes and gold. Evidence was called to show that accused and a man named Hinds were seen with Sutherland, and it is alleged they 'took the money from him. When the body was found, there was only one penny in the pockets of deceased's clothing. The further hearing of the case was adjourned' till Wed-' nesday.
