SUPREME COURT
Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, a married woman named Annie Whitaker and a young man named William Burford were charged with having conspired to procure abortion in the case of a young unmarried woman named Mary Bond. Mr. Wilford appeared for Whitaker and asked that the accused persons be tried separately. After some argument this was granted. The woman was found not guilty. Burford will come up for trial on Saturday. Dunedin, Last Night. The charge against William Patrick Harrington of stealing goods from the Mutual Stores, where he had been employed, was continued at the Supreme Court to-day. The defence set up was that a large portion of the goods alleged to have been stolen were brought from Christchurch by accused's wife, who had been in business there, and that the remainder had been purchased by a lady friend for Mrs. Harrington from time to time in Dunedin. The defence was not completed when the Court rose. John Robertson, late hotelkeeper of Alexandra, was found guilty of failing to keep proper books of accounts, and sentence was deferred.
