AUCKLAND WOOL SALES. Per Tress Association. Auckland, Wednesday. The first sale of the season wag held to-day. The number of bales offered was 4375—an increase of 305 bales on the entry for the opening sales of hot year. A decrease in prices was anticipated owing chielly to the tightness of the money market; but it was rather surprising that this decrease extended to fine wools. The decrease ranged from l'/ 3 d to 3d for both qualities. The wool was in really excellent condition. There I
was an all-round improvement in quality. At the Auckland Farmers' Union sales fine crossbreds realised from $%& to !)%d, coarse crossbreds V/ : .i to 8(1 At G. W. TSinney and Co.'a sales lid was the top price realised for a consignment of halfbreil wool from the Banv of Islands, but 7d to Vi'/,d was the average price of halfbrcds. At the New Zealand JiOnn and Mercantile Agency Compairf's sale, P. 11. Gibson, of Whakaplrau, topped the list with ll 1 / 3 il for ten bales of tine crossbred. were well competed for up to lO'/id. Throughout there "was a noticeable decrease on the values of the corresponding sales of last year, line-haired wools showing u drop of l'/.d to l%d, and coarser sorts of from 2d to 2>/ 2 d.
