ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. A man named Nicholas Egan, 28 years of age, was accidentally killed at Levin whilst working in a railway ballast pit. Auckland, Tuesday. Edward Ormesby, two years old, whose parents reside at Morrinsville, fell into a water-trough and jvas thence washed into the river. His body was recovered ■some days later in a shallow pool. Napier, Last Night. A drowning fatality occurred about 5 o'clock this evening in the old river near the Recreation Ground. Two boys, named William Rickards and Eoy Oliver, were in a small punt when it capsized and both boys sank, but Kickards never came to the surface. After some flme the body was recovered, but life was extinct. The deceased lad was eleven years of age, and was the son of J. H. Rickards, bootmaker.
Dunedin, Last Night. Captain McLay, master of the Hartley and Riley dredge, and one of the oldest dredgeinosters in Otago, was drowned at Cromwell this afternoon. He was going ashore to take his shift on board, when the rope holding the "traveller" broke, and the boat capsized or was swamped. He swam for some distance, but could not get ashore. Deceased was 08 years of age, and followed the sea till 1880, when he settled in Central Otago.
