THE NORA NIVEN.
The Government trawler, the Nora Niven, arrived at the breakwater last evening, and was berthed at the wharf. J'lie vessel ha» been out a week from Onehunga, and has trawled along the whole coast from Cape Maria van Diemen to New Plymouth. A Daily Xews reporter visited the little vessel last night, and asked for some information concerning the success of the deep-sea fishing. Mr. 11. Stevenson, inspector of Fisheries, courteously informed the reporter that lie had no information to give beyond the fact that they had trawled in very good weather. The details would not be available until the publication of the olficial report. In the course of conversation it was learned that the vessel had a load of lish in the refrigerating chambers for disposal by sale, either in Wellington or locally, as instructed.
The Nora Niven is a compact little steamer of 5G toils, not built for beauty, but for use. She is commanded by Captain MacAllistor. Captain Nieleon is the fishing captain, -Mr. Alward chief engineer, Mr. 11. Stevenson Inspector of Fisheries. There is also a crew of ten men. The Nora Niven was specially built for trawling in New Zealand waters, to the order of the New Zealand Trawling and Fish Supply Company, of Napier. She was built at Selby, England, fitted and "engincd" at Grimsby by the Great Central Co-operative Engineering and Ship-repairing Company, Ltd. She is a most up-to-date trawler, and the only great difference between her and the trawlers 011 the English coasts is that whereas the latter take their supplies of ice from the docks, this vessel has a refrigerating plant of her own. When she reaches Wellington ■the trials of the whole of the New Zealand and Chatham Islands coasts will have been completed, and the vessel will then be put in commission to provide fish for market, tJ .V lK ' r owners.
