TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
The Land Board mot yesterday. Present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands (in, the chair), Messrs J. Heslop, J. B. Connett, and J. McCluggage. LAND APPLIED FOR. Land applied for since last meeting:— Sections 2 and 3, block 10, Ivapara, 741 acres, J, Wilks, O.R. P.—Approved, The valuation for improvements lo be dealt with according to law. TRANSFERS. 1 Transfers were approved:—A. A. Aiken to A. J. Jackson, section 2.'i, block 4, Iluiroa; .1. Chapman to H. Jury, section 9, block 13, Mimi; F. C. (Jatton to F. C. and C. S. Gatton, sections 14 and 20, block 15, Ngatimaru; J. Kelly tu J. W. Thomas, sections 3 and 4, block 4, Omona; M. McClugga'ge to J. McCluggage, section 9, block 4, Ngntimaru. J. Carter applied to subdivide section 2, block 11, Aria, and transfer portion to li. Sowry.—Approved, subject to th« Chief Surveyor's approval of the plan of survey. \V. M. T. Bell asked the Board's consent lo transfer his interest'in section 1)3, block H, Waimate, to (1. and D. P. Hurley, when it is intended that he (Hell) should remain in possession until June 11)08. —The Board declined to adopt the practice of considering transfers in advance.
G. Bonuett applied for re-hearing of his application to transfer sections 05, OH. and 07, block 10, l'ouatu, to F. K. Cleland, a * ill-health compelled him to leave the district before he had completed his term of residenre.—Under the circumstances the Hoard approved the transfer. Mr. Cleland will be informed that he must complete the tena of re- j bidence required. The ranger's report on improvements effected on section 10, block 11, Omona, which C. A. -Tones applies to transfer to H. R. and M. M, Scott, was considered.— Mr Jones waited on the Board and stated that he would have resided on the land had there been a fit place to live in, and a good road to the land. He had not when, he signed the papers that he had to reside on the land at once.—The Board unanimously refused to agree to the transfer, and insisted upon the conditions being carried out. With reference to a transfer of section 20, block lfi, Egmont, from W. L. \V. Blair to John Kemp, in which the residential conditions wore to be enforced on the transferee, Mr. Kemp stated that he had understood from Mr. Blair that all condition* as to residence had been complied with.—A letter was received from Mr Blair.—The Board saw no reason to alter its decision. SUB-LEASES.
Otto Trebes to John Potroz, sections 13, 14, and 15, block IC, Egmont; A. Soberer to Chas. Hodge, section 37, block IC, Egmont.—Approved. AN ELTITAM SECTION. Ranger Barron, reported on section 83, block 10, Ngaire, the lease of which would expire at the end of this year. The present tenant (M. Olson) applied for renewal of his ease.—lt waa decided to write asking the Eltham Borough Council asking if the land were now required for an endowment, and that no action be taken at present to let the land. IMPROVED FARM LEASES. i The following improved-farm settlers applied for their leases:—J. Dollimore. | eection 1, block 10, Totoro; J. O'Sullivan. section 3. block 10, Totoro.—Leases to be issued accordingly, except that J. Pollimore's will be subject to one acre being excluded for a dairy factory. ROAD DEVIATIONS. Plans of road deviations were laid on the table for Patupureiuu-Maben road, Tahuri and Whenuakura roads, Patupur«nm and Whenuakura Valley roads, Maborahora road, Wainra road.—Titles affected will be amended accordingly. EXPENDITURE OF THIRDS. Proposals for expenditure of '"thirds" were submitted by the following local bodies and approved:—Motoroa Roud Board, Patea East Road Board, Wairoa Road Board, Clifton County Council, Stratford County Council. Manganui Road Board, and the Egmont County Council. GENERAL. The Under-Secretary for Crown Lands advised that the Niho Niho dairy factory site could be disposed of without competition, and the Board decided to ! recommend the sale of two acres to the Ohura Dairy Company for £2O. Ranger Barron reported on subsection 27 of Kltham-Opunake Railway Reserve, and it was decided to offer to the adjoining occupier a yearly tenancy at 10s per acre per annum, subject to three months' notice. The Commissioner submitted for revision the prices put on section* in the Ohura and IJeno Survey District-) proposed to be offered for selection. —The Commissioner was authorised to make a readjustment. Messrs. Spence and Stanford wrote on behalf of settler* at Matau enclosing sketch of site of proposed shcep-dip on section 0, block 11, Xgatimaru, held by A. Rolfe.—Resolved that upon a plan of survey being nubmitted and approved by the Chief Surveyor the Board will recommend the Minister to consent to the sale of the land for £lO.
The ranger reported on improvements effected oil sections -111, 51, anil 108, block 13, Pouatu, being transferred from A. Framba to E. Carroll.—The transfer was now agreed to. The Ohnra Dairy Company asked for permission to draw water-supply for the factory from P. Julian's section 5, block 3, Ohura, and take pipes through C. A. Manning's section 4.—Approved. Sections in the Mangaroa township and Matiere village will be re-offered. F. S. Cooper waited on the Board with reference to non-residence on section 4, block 13, Omona. He asked if he could put a man on the land.—Resolved that he must find a transferee within a month, or lie would be compelled to reside on the land. Mr. Stanford (Spenee and Stanford) waited on tlie Hoard with reference to improvements effected upon sections 10 and 11, block I, Ngatimaro, a transfer of wliicli had been refused because tlie improvements shown in the ranger's last report were not sufficient. He submil ted a statement showing that more than sufficient had been effected.—The transfer was approved. Messrs. Malone, Anderson and John-
stone submitted that their claim on the valuation for improvements on section I 2. block 1. Taurakawa, should have preference, as it was for rales.—The Board adhered to its previous decision. The =ettlevs at Niho Nilio made application for a school >,ite oil section 4, block ■'!, Ohura Survey District.—Necessary steps will be taken accordingly. Ranger Barron reported on subsections 6, 7, 8, and 10, Opunake Railway Reserve*, the existing leases of which will expire at the end of this year.—
Steps will lie taken to re-offer the lenses. The valuation for improvements on section 1. block 5. anil section 3, block (i. Pouatu. was reduced to .£SO. D. Itea applied for remission of rent in respect of section !t, block Wain, and 11. E. McTvor on section 8. block 11, Ohnra. transferred to him under the Bush and Swamp Act.—The Board could lint see its way to grant the requests. SELECTORS IX DEFAULT. A bchedute of selectors in default was submitted and dealt with as follows: W. Hemvood, section 4, block It, Upper Waitara (detieient improvements, impossible to fell any bush this year). Twelve month.*' extension granted.—E. •lamieson, section li, block fl, Ohura ( nonresident, asks for exemption). Must continue to reside to avoid forfeiture.— i.l. D. Williams, section 1, block 12, Ohura (non-improvement; unable to get biwlifellers; asks for time). To be forfeited.
