Nelson, Last Night. An elderly lady named Mrs Eliza Pidgeon dropped dead in t-'elyn Place this afternoon, the cause ot death being heart failure- Deceased was a very old resident of the city. Dunedin, Last Night. At an inquest to-day 011 the body of Herman Louis Sachtlcr, 19 years of age, evidence was given that deceased, with six other lads, went camping at l'ltrakanui on 9th inat. On 'the 11th inst. the campers had two tins of salmon for breakfast, and the same evening returned to town. On Wednesday evening deceased complained of abdominal cramp, and seemed to be suffering from incessant vomiting, severe abdominal pains, cramp, diarrhoea, cold sweats, annuria, and collapse, and he died on Saturday morning. Fifty hours elapsed froiii. taking the fish and i oaeterial intestinal infection. Dr. lto'herts, who made a post mortem examination, said there was only a t remote possibility of connection between taking the tinned fish and the cause of dfeath, as the intervening period was too long! Death was due to bacterial infection, but it was difficult to- Jlssign the cause. Dr Falconer, hjspital surgeon, said cases had been recorded where 43 hours had elapsed before symptoms appeared, but he did not knoiv of any longer period. A verdict of death from bacterial poisoning there not being sufficient evidence to show the cause, was returned. Oainaru, Last Night.'
