FIRES.
Per Press Association. Auckland, Monday. A fire at Karanghake, near Waabl, destroyed four shops. It broke oui in a stable and buggy alied used by Robertson, grocers, aa a temporary store-room and stable. The fire spread to a billiard, room tenanted by Hawker and to pre- - miaes recently opened as an ftge / HCybf the National Bank. Here "brigade - arrested the blaze, saving the rest of the block of wooden shops. The pre. mises destroyed were partly insured. Napier, Monday. A fire at Takapau destroyed the lakes Hotel, Neilson's cycle shop, the Bank of New Zealand, and Hansen's drapery store. There was no water-supply. The insurances on the hotel and bank (owned by the Napier Brewery Company) totaj £1750 in the Norwich Union and £750 in the Australian Alliance. The contents of-thq hotel were insured for £6OO, and of the bank £IOO, both in the Norwich Union. The cycle and drapery shops were insured for £250 in the New Zealand office, and Hansen's Stock for £550 in the Norwich Union.
