VALUABLE BEQUESTS.
Per Press Association! Christchurch, Saturday. The late Mr Allan McLean's estate amounts to over £500,000, about onethird of which is devoted to making provision for women who are in need. "Holly Lea" mansion, which Mr McLean built seven years ago, will become an endowment as a home for indigent gentlewomen and their young children. The will makes special provision for the selection of women whose education and upbringing would make them congenial companions in an institution intended solely for gentlewomen. The home is to be controlled by a board comprising Anglican and Catholic bishops, two Presbyterian and Wesleyan clergymen, a stipendiary magistrate, chairmen of several local ■ bodies, and two women selected by the board. The balance of the one-third is to be used by the board to provide for needy women and their children under ten. The rest of the estate in left to relations and friends.
