NEW PLYMOUTH EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION

FACTORY HALF-HOLIDAY. A meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth Employers' Association was held on Tuesday afternoon, when the new subclause inserted by the Minister for Labor in the Factories Act Amendment was discussed, The new clause provides that where t||fi number of hands employed In factories and shops combined is more than the number employed in the shop the half-holiday under the Factory Act must be observed. The inclusion of tliis clause will prevent the great majority of employers of labor taking advantage of the optional clause in the Act, and will mean a compulsory Saturday half-holiday for all bunds employed in factories. It was unanimously resolved to ask the Employeri.' Federation to try and get this clause deleted, and solicit the co-operation of the members for the district to this end.
