We regret to learn that Ml'. George Hoby, of Bell Block, is lying seriously ill. Miss Ford, of the Central School teaching stall, is on sick leave, suffering from inlluenza.
Mr. R. Scrivener, now of Masterton and formerly a member of tjie Daily News statf, is staying in New Plymouth for a few days, Mr. Alfred Trimble, late Clerk of the Court at Hawera, who has been transferred to Napier, was met. yesterday afternoon (wires our correspondent) by about thity friends, being members of the Bench, Jlar, Justices, and Licensing Bench, to say good-bye. Mr. Elliot Barton acted as chairman, and spoke of Mr. Trimble's long services extending over twenty-live years, and of the multifarious oflices be had to perform, and which were conducted in every respect most satisfactorily. Reminiscences of the past early days were then given and listened to attentively. Mr. Barton then, on behalf of tfce nhovc, presented Mr. Trimble with a gold yijtch as a mark of ruepect and estceqi. Mr. Trimble suitably responded, and referred to the early days of twenty-five years ago, when he first took Various other speakers paid tribute to Mr. Trimble's courteous, prompt, and accurate treatment and management of his various offices, and all regretted his loss. Ihe watch 14 ]o be engraved,as follows: "Presented to Alfred Trimble as a token of esteem from the Hawci'fl. Bench, Bar, and Justices, 12th November 1907,."
