MILK FEVER IN DAIRY COWS. Copy of letter from Wnnganui Chronicle, 22nd December, 1904: —"Sir,— As it may prove useful to other dairyfarmers I send you the following: Oil the 10th instant one of my beat cows calved, her third calf. On the morning of the 13th she gave me a three-gallon bucket full of milk, and looked tip-top.. At 3 o'clock that evening, coming home from the paddock I noticed her body tucked up and hindquarters stiff. I tried to milk her, but the milk was gone. A? the above were indications of milk fever, T gave her a dose gf Sykes's Drench, and, remembering to have read that oxygen pumped into the udder was a remedy, I got a bicycle pump and with the part that tits in the rubber tyro of the bike added, I pumped the four quarters of the udder full of air. We had to. support her in the bail while doing this. When we left her out she staggered a few yards and fell down. About twenty minutes afterwards, however, to my surprise she was on her feet again, and much better. By 0 o'clock that night she was resting comfortably. Next morning at 4.30 o'clock she was up and feeding. That evening I got 151bs of milk from her, and she is now back to I'M usual flow of milk, and as well as ever she was. I have now had 18 yean' diiiry-farmlng, and liave seen cows die. and cows recover in time, but in thin, instance the quick recovery was simply marvellous.—l am, etc., ,T. W.
