NAVAL INSUBORDINATION!

A CONTEMPTUOUS SIGNAL. REGRETTABLE INCIDENT ON CHANNEL SQUADRON. Received Nov. 11, 10.2 p.m. London, November 11. After a fortnight's hard manoeuvring in very trying weather, the Channel fleet lias returned to Portland to meet the Kaiser. Lord Charles Bereuford, by the Admiralty's order, signalled to the fleet to "Paint ship," whereupon Admiral Scott, commanding the first _ cruiser squadron, signalled to the captain of the Roxburgh, who had gone into firing I range for-gun practice—"Paint work appears in greater demand than gunnery, eo you better come in in time to look pretty by the Bth." • "M ! Lord Charles Beresford thereupon signalled the fleet'that Admiral Scott's signal waß contemptuous in tone and in* subordinate, and must be expunged from the signals of Admiral Scott'e flagship, J the Good Hope, and the Roxburgh. He directed Admiral Scott to report by sig. - nals when the orders were obeyed. The incident occasioned much regret.
