BIG DEAL IN SMALL ARMS.
Per Press Association. Auckland, Last Night The biggest deal in arms and anununition in the history of the Dominion has recently been completed by an Auckland firm. Under the late Government policy it was customary to Btore arms not in keeping with up-to-date patterns as a reserve Bupply. The result was that an immense assortment of obsolete small arms and ammunitiQn accumulated in the Government stores. It was recently decided to dispose of a quantity of these by contract, and an Auckland firm thus came into possession of 18,000 rifles, mostly of the Remington, Lee, Snider, and Martini-Henry patterns, and a million rounds of ammunition, Half a million oartridges were sent Home to be broken up, but the rifles and the remainder of the ammunition are being disposed of locally.
