Melbourne, November 2. The debate on the Tarilf schedule continues in the Federal House of Representatives. The duty on mutches has twin reduced to one smiling for those manufactured in foreign countries and sixpence to British manufactures. The duty on condensed milk has been reduced to 2d for toreign and a preferential duty of I lid for British.
Sjdnvy, November 2. Owing to the unpromising harvest prospects, several freight fiituros have been cancelled. A cargo of wheat, loading at Adelaide, was re-purchased by a 'Sydney miller. Some Vcitorian merchants have under consideration the re-importatiou of wheat on ships now ou their way to England.
ilobart, November 2. The Legi-lative Council negatived the -eei.n.l r-adiug of the Free" Education Bill. The remainder of the Alfheld search party returned after an exhaustive examination of the scrub for miles round the vicinty of the wreck. A body, supposed to be that of the carpenter, w'ts washed up from the wreck. Otheriwise. no trace of the castaways was

In the Assembly the Lender of the Opposition opposed the Laud and Income Tax Bill, because the exemptions were not high enough to relieve the workers of the burden of the new taxation. A motion to adjo|rn the debate was carried against the Government by a majoritv of four.
