FAREWELL LINES TO THE 43rd LIGHT INFANTRY.

Adieu, brave corps whose banners bear The victories you have won, 011 India's soil, and other climes Your work Jias well been done. Your heroic deeds have as it were Become a household word. A valiant and gallant corps Is the brave old 43rd. Adieu 1 brave corps who this bright gem Have guarded for a while. Who've looked from off the rampants on This peaceful happy isle. 'Tis with regret you leave this spot, "Regret" is but the word And long may we be guarded by Men like the 43rd. Adieu! brave corps; the hour has come And now you must away However much kind parting friends Would have you longer stay. A long farewell! Ye noble corps, God bless you is the word, For Jersey's sons will long back On the gallant 43rd. Another word, ere this they leave This sunny speck of land Whoso people have been gladdened by The 43rd's fine band. Of the band then, and its leader, Of the officers —in a word, Of each and all I take my leave Of the gallant 43rd. The above linos were written upon the departure of the 43rd from Jersey. Old members of that regiment will doubtless read the verses with interest.
