PROVINCIAL NEWS.

RAIIOTU. From Our Own Correspondents. A shooting competition was held at the ltahotu range oil Saturday afternoon, but only five members put in an an pearance. The Rah.tu Rille Club has a good number of competitors and does a good deal to encourage rille shooting among its members, aud it seems a pity that so few of the members appear to realise this and take advantage of the opportunities offered. The conditions were 7 shots each at 200 yds and 300 yds, and the result was as follows:

the Rille Club will be held on Monday, November 11.

A pleasant evening in connection with the Christian Endeavor Society was held in the Eahotu Han. There was a good attendance. Games of various kinds were indulged in, and apparently greatly appreciated. An excellent supper provided by the. ladies was done justice to. During the evening several musical items were rendered as follows: —Pianoforte duet, Misses Laybourn; quartette, Hughson family; solo, ''ln Happy Moments," Mr Beadle; solo, ''Asleep in the Deep," Mr Turner.

A meeting of the provisional directors of the Eahotu Co-operative Dairy Co. was held on Friday evening. Mr H. Bailey, of New Plymouth, who has been appointed secretary, was present. It is intended to push on with the erection of the factory as soon as poaaiofo, una it is probable that an offer to have the factory in going order within six months will be accepted. The Opunake Sawmill Company are having a steam hauler installed in their Kahui road bush.

TJie recent spell of dry weather has had a beneficial effect. The grass is commencing to grow, and the supply of milk to the factories is increasing. The farmer is naturally looking more cheerful.

NGAIRE. Fine weather seems to have settled on us, and preparations -are being made for the entertainment of pleasure-seek-ers and those in search of an outing during the summer season. The gardens, now the main pleasure of "the centre of the province, have been extended and made much more attractive considerable expense to the proprietor, and in addition several new novelties are being introduced, amongst which is a water-chute after the style of that at the late Chirstehurch Ex'hfbition, and a new invention by Mr iTrnelove called the "Maypole Whirl." These, in addition to existing amusements, make it quite a "wonderland" of no small merit. A large artificial lake has also been constructed, which adds to the appearance, and provides more accommodation for boating and bathing. The first large picnic is to be held on the 11th of November, under the auspices of the No-License League and I am informed that special trains are to be run from New Plymouth and Hawera, ■ ■rr-.w,-
