A SAVANT'S ESTATE.
BEQUEATHED TO EDUCATION. Per Press Association. Dmiedin, Last Night. It is understood that the late Mr. Arthur Beverley's real estate, which has beei bequeathed to Otago University, is ol the value of not less than £IO,OOO, aud is to form a separate trust fund. The. University Council is empowered and desired to retain the present investments of the testator as permanent investments, and to regularly add to the trust fund one-tenth of the net income resulting from the estate, the balance, after paying charges, to be used for the advancement of education in Otago. Preference is expressed for teaching mathematical, mechanical, and physical sciences and subjects akin thereto, and that natural science be next considered. A desire is also expressed for founding of scholarships to encourage and assist young persons of both sexes who have talent and industry but not wealth. Provision is also made for printing and publishing such of the testator's manuscript works as the executors may select for the purpose.
