VALEDICTORY
Mr Hugh Adaius, of the local railway "loco" staff, has been translerrca lo Aramolio on promotion. Prior to his departure over itO members of the local railway stall' assembled in the social JitiU for tile purpose of tendering him a social evening. lUr Underwood (K.-S.l*.) presided. llie toast of "Our Guest" was received with musical honors, and the chairman took the opporuuity of handing to Jir Adams a travelling bag and silver-mounted umbrella, the gift of the whole staff, as a small token ol their appreciation of his litany sterling qualities, and good wishes for his success in the furure. Mr Morrison, on behalf of the loco, stall, also spoke in eulogistic terms of the l'ce.pient. Mr S. C. Smith, on behalf of the the Social Club, thanked Mr Adams for his ready assistance to the club. Mr T. P. Smith referred to his long acquaintance with Mr Adams, and his many good qualities as a comrade. Mr Adams made a very feeling reply. Other toasts honored were: "The King"; "The A.E.S." (responded to by Messrs fi. G. Smith and li. King); "The Officers' Insttiute" (responded to by Messrs . Hall and Noble); "The Loco. Staff" (Mesrs Underwood and Bingliam responding); "The Traffic Stair' (Messrs Simmons ami Seabriglit responding); "The Dining Car Staff" (Mr J. Ford acknowledging the compliment); "The Press," "The Ladies, and "The Pianist," were also proposed and honored. The gathering broke up a few minutes before twelve o'clock with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne," and "Tho Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond" in honor of tho guest. Musical items were ably contributed by .Messrs HaTl, Lcn. Smith, Allkins, Boyd, Maxwell, T. Smith, Crothers, Faulner, McAlrtheney, Thomson and E. King.
