The Marvlebonc team of cricketers opened their Australian tour in a match against Western Australia. Although the majority of the members showed the ellects of the voyage, several managed, in view of the weak bowling of the local side, to maT<e fair scores. Fane wa.- the chief of these, and after playing himself ill. gave an aggressive display which resulted in 133 being placed opposite his name. His innings, however, was not without blemish, he being given a life at 24, and then again after recording his century. Rraund played up to form, while both Hardstaff and Crawford gave a lively expositiga. .JVhe-i stumps were drawn, England had lost seven wickcls fnr .150. of which Fane contributed 133. ltraund 59. 'Auckland, Last Night. The cricket season in Auckland opened yesterday in fine weather, and in the presence of a large attendance. Eden seniors made 185, and North Shore 3# runs for three wickets. For Eden \V. B. Smith made 48, G. B. Cumminga "40, TT. Hobsen 40. City, first innings, made 113, (Grainger 43, Hemus 23) v. Parnell, two wickets for 46 (K. Barry 20). Grafton, 129 (A. Jones 39) v. Ponsnni bv. who just commenced their first innings.
