It is believed that the true running in the Caulfiehl Cup is not yet disclosed. As stated, R. Cleland, the owner of Apologue, being upset at the result of the race, suggested to the VA.T.C. committee to hoIcT an inquiry. The suggestion was not received favorably, and Cleland then demanded an inquiry. The committee, after consideration, replied that they would hold an inquiry if Clcland would pay all the expenses of the same. Cleland is now considering tlie [ committee's proposal Jn "any case, Coffee, who rode Apologue iu 'the Caulfield Cup, is not likely to ride the New Zealander in the Melbourne Cup. May King pulied up slighth' lame after winning the Moonee Valley Cup. Bueeleuch is showing splendid staying powers, and got to the end ot' a mile and a-half in 2min 40 l-ssee.
Martello, tlie Stewards' Handicap lavorite, is shaping well, and will take a power of beating on 2nd November.
