ADRIFT IN A BOAT.
»ARROW ESCAPE OF TWO BOYS. Per Press Association. Chri'stchurch, Saturday. At 0,50 last evening the postmaster at Akaroa received a telephone , message lrorn Harry's Bay to the effect'that two boys were adrift in a boat in the harbor 1 and were fast being carried out to sea. A strong nor'-wester was blowing at the time, and the sea was rough and choppy. Constable Jackson, on hearing the facts of the case, procured #n oil launch and went in search of the boat. Although darkness was fast, coming on, he was able, after cruising about in the harbor for some time, to pick up the lads, who proved to be' the two sons of Mr.. Parini, one aged nine and the other five. They had been paying a visit to Barry's Bany, and, instead "of returning by road, had borrowed an old flat-bottomed boat .with no oars, intending to paddle back to Akaroa with a piece of board. Constable Jackson's prompt action probably saved the lives of the boys, as it would have been impossible to pick them up after darkness had sot in.
