"HIS HIGHNESS THE BEY."
"Ilis Highness the Bey" kept a big audience hearliiy amused and entertained last night. This musical cuiuedy, staged for the first June ui New Plymouth, caught tin: popular fancy. Tiie dialogue was humorous and sprightly, tiie music and siugiiig much above the comedy average, the staging and dressing superb. "His Highness the liey" was an out-of-work leader of a Herman band, snapped up and placed upon the throne of Harraa iu times of great i troubles with the grasping .Russia. His ignorance of the duties devolving upon liim led him into all sorts of comical situations; and here let it be said that -Master JJert Nicholson took every opportunity and played the part to pevlection. This youthful comedian has undoubtedly a most promising fill ure. Every character was so well portiayed that it is nut necessary to mention Hum in detail. The dances were for the most new, and in every instance a genuine treat. A "scarecrow dance" caused a regular furore. At times during the evening fours were entertained for a large section of the audience, owing to the very strenuous exercise of their risible faculties. 'His Highness the liey" was truly a fine performance, ami we can safely assure Mr. Tom Pollard ot some bumper houses for his next productions locally. The splendidly elfeitive orchestra contributed in no small decree to the suei-ess of the tiiree nights' , scroll.
"lllueliell in Fairyland" will be proihieeil at the Stratford Town Hall toni<iit, and the company commences a t wo-nights season in the Hawera Opera llo.ise on Saturday evening.
