CLERKS SIDE WITH THE AMALGAMATED SOCIETY. GENERAL SECRETARY'S ATTITUDE. Received Oct. 23, 10.52 p.m. London, October 23. The Railway Clerks' Association lias decided to support the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. Mr. Richard Bell, speaking at Derby, expressed the hope that the crisis was now at its worst. He was determined not to say a word calculated to impede -■Jr. rjoyd-tjoorge's efforts to .secure a friendly result from his conference with the railway directors, but he was sorry the .Midland Company had been in such a hurrv to import' outsiders. Such action, in.ite.nl of intimidating, would make the men more determined.
We were told a day or two ago that the directors of the railwav companies had circularised the clerks, askinir whether they intended to stand by the companies, and whether thev were willing to undertake duties outside those at present performed by them. Evidently their sympathies are not with the companies.
