AfT THE PATEA BREAK.WATLE. The Kapiti, with a eargo of 150 t of coal on board from vvestport, ran ashore near the eastern wait whilst coining in on Sunday. Some cargo was discharged to lighten her, and at the evening tide an attempt was made to get her otf. Just as everything appeared to he going smoothly and the Kapiti was floating oil the hawser slipped from the monolith at the end of the breakwater to ™* * f! s attached. The Kapiti ti , ? me into contact with the end of the eastern wall. p ur . , ' preparations were made for getting her oil, and more cargo was discharged! At about 1 0 clock on Monday when another attempt to float her was bein<v made the hawser snapped. The Kapiti is at present lying to the eastward of t ie eastern wall, with her stern about iU teet from the end of the wall. She is m no danger, and it is anticipated that she will be got off during the course of a day or so. It is not fully known as yet what damage the Kapiti lias sustained. The rudder post is broken, tut it is impossible to say whether the propeller has met with anv injury. Though neap tides there was 12 feet of water Sn the bar on Sunday."
