THE "CORNER" IN BOTTLES.

Per Press Association, Dunedin, Last Night. A meeting of representatives of the bottling trade was held to-day for the purpose of considering the present situation in regard to the purchase of quart bottles and of arriving at a definite arrangement to regulate the price of the same. Thomson and Co. explained that their action in raising the buying price of bottles to 2s Cd per dozen was due to the fact that other firms had broken the agreement whereby it was arranged that bottles should be purchased at Is per dozen. This was the last time they were going to sign any agreement about bottles. They were prepared to work with the rest, but if it were going to be war, it would be war in every sort of bottle. A committee was set up to consider the matter, and a meeting will be held next Friday, when, if other firms are not prepared to agree to purchase bottles at Is per dozen, Thomson and Co. will again put their price up to 2s Od, and higher if necessary. Since the 20th ult. they have purchased roughly six thousand dozen at 2s 6d per dozen, and now have in stock some twenty-fi/e thousand dozen, sufficient to last them two or three years.
