BOOKMAKERS PROSECUTIONS.

The recent cases, in which the Taramiki Jockey Club, acting under the New Plymouth by-laws, proceeded agai,nst several bookmakers for betting on a borough reserve, cost the club £OO 3s 4(1 ill legal expenses. The total amount of lilies collected to dale has been £133 10s, and £I(io still remains upaid. Of this it is estimated that £52 is recoverable. All of these fines, being recovered under the by-laws, go into the borough coffers.
