Ail' \Y. T. Jennings, J1.11.1t., rcturnsd from Wellington on Suturday night. FIiTHOLEUIiI HEWS. TJIK 'WT.KKI.V UHPOIiT OF THE TAKA's'AKI I'irj'itULEU.U CO., LTD. The casing at No. 1 has been lowered past that left ill the bore, but the drill lia:- struck sonic iron in tlie bottom tint is somewhat hard to get past. A small quantity of oil is still coming. Some salt water (not sea water) is coining at the bottom of -No. 2 with the oil. This shows that the bore is perfectly tight, and is a very satisfactory sign, as salt Water always accompanies the oil. Some six barrels of clean oil were saved and a lot more pumped out with the mud. (las also is showing freely. It is intended to still carry this bore down. No. :i is drilling in a granular limestone at 2372 ft, and it is thought tint it is good enough to shut off in, and a test will be made early this week.
