FKIDAY OCTOBER 4. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Council met at 2-30. The Mines Committee reported upon the Coal Mines Act Amendment Bill, and recommended that it proceed without amendment. Replying to the Hon. Beehan, the At-torney'-General said it was not intended at tile present time to adopt the system tried in Victoria, with regard to inebriates, by allowing them to be discharged upon signing the pledge. He considered the law in force with regard to prohibition orders sufficient to meet the ease. The Bills of Exchange Act Amendment Bill, and Judiciary Act, wore read ft firat time. The Council rose at 2.45. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

The House met at 2.30. Six days' leave of albscnce was granted to Mr Davey and Mr Hall on account of ill-health.
