DRIVERS' UNION v. EMPLOYERS.
To the Editor. Sir—ln reply to Mr. Wliitaker's (secretary Employers' Association) letter of Saturday, 28th September, in which he has used :i considerable portion of one of your columns in trying to lead your renders astray, saying that our union is not prepared to meet them, I desire to answer that we were ready for any date, as the memo, quoted. Now, sir, if Mr. Whitaker would give a little more of his time to trying to bring about an amicable settlement, and loss time to ailing his supposed grievance in print, trying to blacken our demands, the Arbitration Court would have very little to do in this matter. Surely the employers never suggested that no stranger should be allowed to live in New Plymouth, o'r bow would tliey get on in business? As regards our members, we have been considerably strengthened since the publication of the letter referred to. In conclusion, we are prepared to meet employers on Mr. Whitaker notifying same through your paper, so that the public will know then whoso Fault it is and judge for themselves. If such a course is taken and it is shown that the employers "are willing to meet us in a conciliatory spirit," there should be no cause for further letter-writing.—l am, etc., J. JILLETT, Hon. See. Drivers and Grooms' Industrial Union of Workers.
