PECULIAR FIRE OUTBREAK.

Per Press Association. Christchurch, Tuesday, shortly after 11 o'clock, a lire broke out in the most remarkable of places, at the top of a telegraph pole. The cause of the lire is obscure, hut ilames broke out fiercely on the distributing boxes by which the wires in the metallie current cables are shut up anion" the telephone subscribers. The fire seems to have been caused by a house which was being shifted Coming in contact with the cables. News also reached the lire station that iires occurred on poles ill Victoria street and other parts of the city and suburbs, the belief being that the moving house caused contact with the tramway cables, and so an extension of fusing occurred affcctiii" all sections radiating from the point of contact. All the fires were extinguished and no serious damage done.
