NEW PLYMOUTH SWIMMING CLUB.

The New Plymouth Swimming Club held its annual meeting on Fridav "fglil. There was not a large attendance. Mr. J. Staples presided. ANNUAL REVIEW.

The committee reported a very successful .year, both as regards sport and finance. The credit balance was not as large as at the conclusion of the previous year, due to the increase of prizemoney, and subscriptions being somewhat less plentiful. During the season the club initiated long-distance swimming, and held races up to one mile. The committee recommended the incoming committee to encourage longdistance swimming, particularly as the club possessed some very promising performers m this department. The distance swimming by the children attending the West End School was attended with better results than in the previous year The committee hoped that every eilort would be made in tne ensuing season to get the Central School pupils to compete for these certificates. Reference was made to the loss of several prominent members, Messrs. Kelly, Dyne, Jliggins, and Hanna having left New Plymouth. The bulance-slieet showed that the year started wilh a credit balance of £0 4s !)d. Members' subscriptions brought m £3 2s Od, gate receipts £l7 las, Humiliations and acceptances £5 Ids Ikl, sweepstake entrances £1 19s. In the expenditure the principal items were: Prize-money £l4 lis 3d, advertising £lO 7s 9d, Borough Council (percentage of gates) £1 13s, and subscriptions to the Association £1 Is. ELECTION OP OFFICERS.

The officers were elected as follows: Pre.-ddciit, Mr. W. h. Newman; vicepresidents, Messrs. E. Dockrill, W. 0. Malone, h. Ballot, .1. Smith, G. Tisch, A. ]|. iialcombe, A. E. Watkins, and C. Clark; captain, Mi]. 11. Stoeker (reelected); vice-captain, Mr. \V. Nutt; secretary, Mr. A. Dixon; treasurer, Mr. A. V. Stohr; auditor, Mr. E. P. Webster; committee, Messrs. W. Lints, L. P.. Webster, A. 11. Standish, J. Muldoon, and Swanston; handicappers, Messrs. W. Lints and A. \V. Ogilvie.

NEW MEMBERS. Twenty-seven new members were elected: Messrs. M. Swanson, A. Schierncy. A. Hayward, A. Pearce, C. Pearce, M. McCoy, C. Harvey, G. Hopkins, L. lirown, J. Scanlon, J. Muldoon, J. haslliw, C. Buchanan, G. Hoskin, M. Kennedy, C. .McLean, T. Anderson, W. Nicoll, C. Morgan, H. Bollinger, A. Maxwell, 11. Stowe, J. A. Laing, K. Thomson, A. Guy, V. O'Brien, and B. Frethev.

GENERAL. Tim subscription was again fixed et 2s Oil for the season. The secretary was instructed to write to Hie New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association concerning the issue of certificates for members who ■ had completed mile and half-mile distances. It was decided to hold the ciliciai opening of the season on the first Thursday in November. The committee will decide whether "this shall be an afternoon or a night function. i Votes of thanks were accorded to the outgoing olliccrs, handicapper and j starter, donors of prizes, the caretaker, the Press, Mr. Webster and Mr. Standish lor use of rooms for meetings, and to the chair, and the meeting closed.
