The Hun. George Fowlds, Minister for Education, proceeded Xorth by last night's steamer. After the sitting of the Court at Palnierstou South yesterday, Major Keddel, S.-M., was presented with a purse of sovereigns by the Bar and citizens of the town, it being his last visit there in his Magisterial capacity.—Press wire.

The Elthaiu Argus states that Mr. F. YV. Fretliey met with a nasty accident whilst riding at Kaponga on Tuesday. The girth of the saddle broke and earned Mr. Fretliey ta receive a hcaiy fall, causing concussion of the brain, lie was removed to his home at Ellliani, where lie is doing as well as could he expected. Mr. F. W. Ward, editor of the Sydney Daily Telegraph, says he has a very high opinion of surgical specialists. Recently Mr. Ward underwent a very grave operation for the removal of an abscess from the base of the skull. For many years he had been partially deaf, and so successful was the operation that he has perfectly regained his hearing, which is now equal to what it was in the days of his boyhood. Mr. Ward is a Tarannki boy, son of the Rev. Mr. Ward, the popular Primitive Methodist pastor.
