Major Elliott's troops, numbering «Uty, pursued Morenga, who was accompanied by ten Hottentots, over a Waterless track for forty-eight hours. Morenga, who was posted on a kopje, opened fire at one thousand yards, and fought fiercely for two hours. Inspector Manders, with twelve troopers, rushed the position under tover of the main body's fire. Corporal Henwood was killed at a distance of ten yards, and the man who Shot him was immediately killed by a trooper. Morenga was found riddled with bullet*. A German officer accompanying Major Elliott eulogised the operation. The Governor of German South-West Africa has warmly thanked Sir W. HelyHutehinson, Governor of Cape Colony.
